What you need to know
An older variant of the Surface Book 2 recently reappeared on Microsoft’s website. You can now order a Surface Book 2 with a 7th Gen Intel Core i5 processor starting at$1,150. The reappearance of the older Surface Book 2 comes at a time when a Surface Book 3 is reportedly on the way.Several leaksindicate that a Surface Book 3 is imminent.
As pointed out byNeowin, the 7th Gen chip in the Surface Book 2 is a dual-core chip rather than the quad-core processors in the Surface Book 2 with an 8th Gen Intel processor. That’s a significant change and makes the reappearance of the older Surface Book 2 a bit odd.
It’s not uncommon for companies to sell older hardware, but having the Surface Book with a 7th Gen chip appear amidst reports of a next-gen replacement is a tad curious. The Surface Book 2 with a 7th Gen chip starts at $1,150 for a 13.5-inch model with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Several variants of the Surface Book 2 with 8th Gen chips are sold out, so the reappearance of the older model gives people some options. That being said, with the Surface Book 3reportedly passing through the FCCrecently, it’s probably best to wait and see what Microsoft announces before ordering any new pieces of hardware.
Power on the go
The Surface Book 2 may be getting a bit long in the tooth, but it’s still a powerful performer, especially at $500 off.
