Activision fires up in-game rewards for watching Call of Duty League

Activisionhas announcedthe beginning of an in-game rewards program for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare for fans of the Call of Duty League (CDL). Starting with the final day of the Seattle Home Series on May 24, viewers can unlock in-game perks simply by watching the pros do their thing.
In-game rewards have arrived! Starting with the Seattle Surge Home Series on Sunday, May 24, you can start earning rewards by enjoying live matches on the Call of Duty League website (desktop and mobile) and on the Call of Duty companion app (available on iOS and Android) while signed into your Activision account.
If you’ve been playing Modern Warfare already you’ll certainly have an Activision account set up, so make sure to log in to either theCDL siteor the mobile app with this same account. Rewards are set to include double XP tokens and CDL team flare.
Viewing time will be tracked continuously across devices, so you can take a break and come back or switch from a PC to a phone with no detriment to the amount of rewards you’ll get. The first two will be handed out after 10 minutes of viewing time, with further unlocks coming every 30 minutes after that.
There is a caveat, however, and that’s regarding any in-game requirements to unlock the rewards you get. It doesn’t mess with the progression system in Modern Warfare, but once you’ve done whatever you need to do, you’re golden. Rewards work cross-platform, too.
To this point, fans have had to enjoy the CDL exclusively on YouTube, but since that platform doesn’t yet seem able to offer a Twitch-like drops system, to get in on the action you’ll have to switch away for the remainder of the Seattle Series.
The CDL has switched to an online-only format in recent months due to the global pandemic, but here’s hoping the season-ending Championship with $2million on the line for the winning team can, somehow, be played on LAN.
