Key notes

There’s no denying that many players have been waiting for Cyberpunk 2077 to be launched ever since it was first announced 2 years ago.

Thegamehas been through a lot of development, and the marketing around it has been extensive, drawing players ever closer to a world created by the samedevelopersthat brought your the Witcher series.

The product was then polished and tested extensively, which inadvertedly lead to delays, and despite being still beinglaunched with numerous bugs, it still managed to break several records.

Well, all that hard work has apparently paid off, and we say that in a very literal sense.

CD Projekt Red has really outdone themselves this time, as they have announced in their65/2020 financial reporthow the development and marketing costs for Cyberpunk 2077 have already been covered through pre-purchases and purchases made since the first day of launch:

The Management Board of CD PROJEKT S.A. with a registered office in Warsaw (hereinafter referred to as “the Company”) hereby announces that the estimated licensing royalties receivable by the Company in association with pre-order sales of Cyberpunk 2077 across all of its digital distribution channels have exceeded the sum of the following:

– total development expenditures related to the game, and

– the game’s marketing and promotional costs borne by the Company – either already incurred or anticipated for the remainder of 2020.

This report says a lot about the game, especially given howbug-riddled it turned out to be on all platforms.

However, CD Projekt Red took responsibility of the entire matter and have taken extensive measures to make sure thatplayersare still satisfied with their product.

This includes offering refunds, creating dedicated help pages for their most frequently found issues, launching hotfix after hotfix, and more.

All in all, one thing is clear: CD Projekt Red is pure profit from now on, even if the margin is slower due to the state of thegameduring release.
