Afterthe Chromium Edge browserrecently gotsupport for dark mode, it now offers the option to changethemesmanually. This change is applicable only forWindowsfor the moment.

SinceMicrosoft EdgeisChromium-based, anyupdateto thebrowseralso extends to otherbrowserssupported by theOS.

Apart from the darkthememode, theChromium-basedEdgebrowseralso adopted the looks and composition of theWindows 10. Which means thatEdgetransformed its visual style based on the settings you used inWindows 10.

Having said that, theoperating systemalready features a dark mode.

Hence, while working on the darkthemeforEdge,Microsoftwanted thebrowserto sync thoroughly with theWindows 10browser.

That is to say,Microsoft Edgecan automatically replace thethemeto the selected mode and match the visual set up ofWindows 10. It does so to get more regularity across theoperating system.

The downside of the previous Dark Mode

The downside of the dark mode was, that you could not select a differentthemethat’s not featured in theOS. So, using the lightthemein thebrowserwith the dark mode in theWindows 10wasn’t a choice inEdge.

However, the currentupdatefixes that downside by launching athemeswitcher forMicrosoft edgeCanary.

How to manually change themes in Chromium Edge

The current version ofEdgeallows you to select just thethemeyou want in yourbrowser, despite the default settings of theOS.

Which means you can change to literally any desired mode regardless of your currentWindows 10configuration.

Here are the steps to follow:

No reboot is required for the changes to be effective. However, this feature is only limited to the latestMicrosoft Edge Canary build.

The company plans to extend it to the Dev version soon. Given thatMicrosoft Edgeis still being worked upon, it’s getting the new feature updates quite frequently.Microsoftis yet to ship the first beta build.
