The company just rolled out its beta waitlist forSlack ChatGPT, which will be coming within the Slack App directory.
Noah Desai Weiss, Slack’s chief product officer, also promised that the move could give customers new superpowers by helping them tap the collective knowledge of their organization’s channel archives.
OpenAI has been a great Slack customer, and we’re even more excited for them to be an amazing Slack partner. The ChatGPT app for Slack deeply integrates the power of OpenAI’s cutting edge large language models into Slack’s conversational interface. There couldn’t be a more natural fit.
If anything, this could be a million-dollar move that changes the way we work remotely. While the news has been met with some perplexing receptions, it’s still a highly-anticipated technology that could help you summarize threads, compose important messages and even research information from the outside.
The app was built on top of Slack’s trusted platform, and will be available alongside more than 2,600 other integrations in the app ecosystem. This ensures customers have granular controls to safely manage third-party access of Slack data. Any data that the app has permission to access will not be used to train ChatGPT’s language model.

The news itself came amidst Salesforce’s announcement of Einstein GPT, its world’s first generative AI for CRM. Together, the two forces combined ChatGPT’s enterprise-grade tech with the company’s private AI models, so here’s hoping for a much better experience than the polarizing-viewed Bing AI chatbot.
It’s also worth noting that Microsoft, the tech giant behind its Teams platform, has spent over $10 billion in OpenAI, ChatGPT’s company, so it could be interesting to see this feature rolling out on Slack, notably a direct rival to Teams.
