Key notes

Kodiis one of thebest media centersfor Windows, and other platforms, with which users can organize and open all their media.

A lot ofKodiusers install builds, which are basically pre-configuredKodisetups that come with their own themes, add-ons, and even electronic program guides. Some builds give Kodi a very different look and feel.

However,Kodimight revert to its default Estuary skin for some users when they start the software, which displays ayour library is currently emptymessage.Kodigoes back to its original default state with an empty library when that happens.

In such circumstances, users who installed builds need to restore them.

If you’re new toKodi, note that theyour library is currently emptymessage is not a software error. Some new users might expectKodito automatically scan for media content in their folders when they first launch it.

However,Kodidoesn’t automatically scan for media files. Thus, new users need to manually add their media content within the media center’s default Estuary skin.

TheMedia sources pageon theKodiwiki provides details for how users can add media sources.

1. Select the skin that holds your build

2. Reinstall the Kodi build

However, some users might still need to reinstall their builds ifKodihas been completely wiped clean. Thus, you’ll need to start from scratch by turning on theUnknown sourcessetting so that you can install the third-party build.

Then add the build’s source link viaKodi’s file manager, and select to install the package from the zip file.

3. Back up Kodi

Note that the above guidelines are forKodi‘s Estuary skin. What you need to click on to install the Backup add-on might be a little different for a third-party build skin.

Nevertheless, when you’ve saved a backup with that add-on, you can restore yourKodibuild setup when needed.

To restore it, open the Backup add-on inKodi, clickOpen Settings, clickBrowse Remote Path, and select the folder that includes the backup. After closing Backup, open the add-on again and click itsRestoreoption.

As a conclusion, it is recommended that you keep aKodiback up to ensure you can always restore your build. When you don’t have aKodibackup, try selecting the skin for the build as outlined for the first resolution.

IfKodigets completely wiped clean, however, you should have kept a backup as you’ll need to reinstall the build!
