Even thoughWorkshas been discontinued by Microsoft, some users still prefer to use this software instead of MS Office because of its simplicity and customization level.

In this article, we will explore a few methods that will allow you to either run MSWorks(if you already have an installation CD or the software is installed on your PC) or convert the files from the .WPSfile formatofWorks, to a more compatible format that can be opened inOpen Office,Libre Office, or Microsoft Office.

AlthoughMicrosoft Worksis discontinued, you can still run it onWindows 10by setting the MSWorks.exe file to run in Compatibility Mode. Alternatively, you can convert .WPS files with dedicatedMicrosoft Worksfile converter.

1. Run MS Works executable file in compatibility mode

  1. Ensure that you have the MS Works app installed on your PC. If not, go ahead and do it.

  2. Navigate to the folderthat contains the executable file forMicrosoft Works (C: > Program Files (x86) > Microsoft Works)

  3. Right-click on the MSWorks.exe file, and selectTroubleshoot compatibility.

  4. The troubleshooter will automatically detect the best compatibility mode.

  5. After this process is completed, selectTry recommended settings.

6.Click onTest the program.

7.This will launch theMS Worksapplication.

Although MS Works is an old software, you can still use it on your Windows 10 device. What you need to do is run it in compatibility mode. This will ensure proper functioning of the software.

Note:This method only applies if you already have aMicrosoft Worksinstallation CD, or if you already have this software installed on your PC

2. Convert MS Works files (WPS)

MS Office

After this process is complete, you will be able to open up the newly created file inside Open Office.
