New statistics reveal that the Windows Store has reached a 1.7 million daily downloads milestone in October, which is an increase of 38.56 percent compared to figures revealed in June. Still, it has a long way before it can be considered a rival for Apple’s or Google store of apps
Microsoft has provided developers with information that the Windows Store managed to reach a new milestone in the past month –1.7 million daily downloads. The last time when Microsoft has disclosed daily downloads in the Windows Store was in June; now, the new numbers represent a38.56% increasesince then. Most likely, the overhaul that Windows 8.1 has brought is to be considered the main cause.
According to Microsoft’s dataset, around51.2 millionfree and paid applications were downloaded during the month of October, up from 36.9 million in June. More than1.3 milliondownload in October were for paid Windows 8 apps, while downloads for free apps have reached49.7 million. You can see more statistics in the above table.
Microsoft’s Windows Store might beat the Apple Mac Store, but it is definitely no match for Apple’s store. Apple has had en estimated60 billionApp Store downloads in October with an average of almost75 milliondaily downloads. According to this data, Apple is tallying 43.8 times as many downloads per day than Microsoft.
One of the reasons is constituted by the fact that Apple has a huge number of iOS devices in the whole world while Windows 8’s market share is still in its incipient stage. Another reason is the absence of important apps in the Windows Store, and the presence of a lot of “junk apps”, like I call them. Maybe the launch ofcheap Window 8 tabletswill contribute to the increase of apps in the Windows Store, because at the moment, it can’t compete with Google and Apple.

For most of the kids of his age, the Internet was an amazing way to play and communicate with others, but he was deeply impressed by the flow of information and how easily you can find anything on the web.
Prior to founding Windows Report, this particular curiosity about digital content enabled him to grow a number of sites that helped hundreds of millions reach faster the answer they’re looking for.
