What you need to know
We’re all waiting rather impatiently forMinecraftto finally be blessed withthe Nether Update, which will add a tremendous list of fresh mechanics and features to the aging hellish dimension. We still don’t know exactly when it’ll happen, but Mojang Studios continues to trickle out information regarding the “how” behind the Nether Update. In the first Dev Diaries on YouTube, different developers from Mojang Studios talks about different parts of the game.
It’s a short video, but definitely worth a watch if you’re interested in the reasoning behind some of the decisions made in the Nether Update. Highlights of the video include what Mojang Studios wanted from the Nether Update: a different, completely livable dimension that shares very little with the Overworld, but still encourages players to live there and build new things.
This meant making sure every biome was still alien, but felt like it still belonged in the Nether. This also led to the creation of biomes like the warped forest, which is more demure than other biomes in the Nether, and the basalt delta, which immediately inspires dramatic and moody building projects.
The developers also speak about the piglins and hoglins that are also being added, which add a lot of life to the Nether. They wanted to build a sustainable ecosystem, in which piglins and hoglins co-existed, and one relied on the other for food, but they didn’t just wipe each other out constantly. A fascinating tidbit was how up to fifteen baby piglins were able to stack onto hoglins, before they limited it to three. I guess baby piglins dying from falling at that height was a little too morbid, even for the Nether.
